London Winter League 2003 - Matchday 1
updated 5th November

LWL went off with a whimper yesterday as the rain smothered much of the
good spirits for the first couple of games. But the sun came out,
Ledgington got a couple of victories over Clapham and everyone went home
happy after a hard day's play. Many thanks to Wayne and Nicole for all
their help organising this year's league. See you all again on December
the 7th.

Division1:

1 Ledgington 1
2 Ledgington 2
3 Clapham 1
4 Clapham 2
5 Smash & Grab
6 Red Dog
7 Hammerage/NSD
8 Albatross/Bad Habits 1

In the opening pools all teams found it very difficult to score against
any of the Ledgington or Clapham teams, no team getting more than 3 or 4
points against them (and a lot ending game - 0). This set up 2 Clapham
vs Ledgeinton games to top the pools which both Ledgington teams won in
sudden death (grr). Rather than have both clubs playing their own teams
in the final games we crossed over so that each got to play the other
team they hadn't played. In both games Clapham ran out comfortable
winners, thus preventing Ledgington taking home much more than the
points in terms of psychological advantage for the rest of the series.
In the other games Smash beat Red Dog in sudden death to take 5th ,
drawing first blood in what looks becoming a regular battle over the
winter, and Hammerage/NSD beat Albatross/Bad Habits 1 comfortably to
take 7th.

LOST PROPERTY: White Washington 2001 League disk (Scando), White St Pats
Hat tournie disk (unmarked), damp grey McKenzie fleece (now in my
washing machine)

Division 2:

1 Strange Blue
2 Discuits
3 Under Cover Lovers
4 Albatross/Bad Habits 2
5 Holloway Hammers
6 Pyramus and Frisbee
7 Thundering Herd

No sudden deaths to our knowledge - Strange Blue were looking pretty
good and may well be able to beat Hammerage to stay top 8 next month.
They very rarely made any unforced errors. Thundering Herd came across
zone for the first time so that was pretty good experience for them.
Wandsworth seems a pretty good venue - the pitches aren't great but
there's loads of room. There's 2 other bits of the common that aren't
really used either so there's definite 3rd division possibility as well.

LOST PROPERTY: White t-shirt is only lost property.
