Results from Matchday 3 - 14 January 2007
After the copious rain of recent weeks, Sunday turned out glorious, if a
little chilly in the afternoon - pretty much perfect for Winter League.
From looking at the scores submitted and relative changes in seedings,
here's how the day seemed to work out:
Open Division 1
Clapham & Fire maintain their dominance, with the final seeing Fire leading
pretty much the whole way until 09-08, when Clapham staged a coup to win
09-11. Despite claims from both teams to be taking it easy in the
off-season, this game saw both teams pick up their concentration and level
of play. The visitors, CamboCakes from Amsterdam, justfied their inclusion
in Division 1, displacing the restructured Discuits (containing a lot of
faces previously seen on Tour with Fire) and Strange Blue. Brighton and
Fever maintain seeding, but Revolution have slipped drastically - into the
relegation zone. It should perhaps be noted that due to a miscalculation of
a 3-way-tie by a Fever co-captain (also an LWLC member!) (not my fault, I was hungover... blame that dasterdly Steve Balls, he's more monty burns than smithers afterall) Brighton and Fever
actually played the wrong final games. This being Winter League, we'll run
with the final placings that resulted... the scoreline of the Brighton v
Strange Blue final suggests it may have been a good'un, possibly the only
sudden-death game of the day?
Open Division 2
ABH tumble from the top and are succeeded by December's runners up, UCL who
have their eye on promotion, with Sublime and 6ffu (aided or hindered? by a
few spare Fire players - it seems that most of their games were won or lost
by 1 point!) rapidly climbing the seedings after them. Ow! and Curve are
still doing their thing, DiscDoctors took an even bigger tumble than ABH,
from 3 to 7, Blaze are still building up to their first victory - following
in the footsteps of the mighty Thundering Herd!
Mixed Division 1
Thundering Herd's dominance is broken by Discuits (who've redistributed
their players between their teams this month), Brighton make it into the
final by virtue of winning the 3-way-tie with OvaThrow, who go on to succumb
to the Herd, and Thrown, who win their final game. 4th place from each pool,
Equilibrium manage to avoid relegation back to Division 2 after their
promotion last month, leaving Chichester to take the fall.
Mixed Division 2
Fugazees continue the climb they started in December, making it to the top
spot and looking forward to Division 1, in the process denying the Flaming
Galahs a triumphant return. Apart from UCL, who're also still seeking their
first victory, there's turrmoil in the rest of the division, with PAF
showing the largest shift in seeding, unfortunately in a downward direction.
Unfortunately, several teams missed out on a game, as Roehampton were unable
to field a team for this event.
