London Winter League - 2005/06 Rules

A. General
  1. The 2005-06 London Ultimate League (LWL) consists of four tournaments between November 2005 and February 2006. Teams score ranking points according to their final position at a given tournament.

  1. The 2005-06 LWL Ranking is calculated from each team's total number of ranking points. The scores are also used to determine qualification for the 2006 Charity Shield (exact details tbc).

  1. The 2005-06 LWL is overseen by the LWL Committee (LWLC) who are responsible for the day-to-day running of the League, and complaints or queries and rules clarifications will be addressed to them (winterleague@londonultimate.com). Current LWLC members are: Roger Thomson, Wayne Retter, Gaz Jones, and Nicole Roberts.
  B. Rostering
  1. There are no formal rostering rules for LWL 2005-06 but the LWLC asks that teams respond in the spirit of the event.

  1. Any mass shifts in team composition, esp those that intentionally strengthen a team low in the rankings or weaken a team high in the rankings, will be frowned upon by the LWLC.

  1. Feedback on this issue is welcomed by the LWLC, who are considering stronger rostering regulations for the 2006-07 League. Widespread abuse of the relaxed approach to rostering this year will lead to the imposition of stricter rules along the lines of the UKUA Open and Mixed regulations for future events.

  C. Mixed Rules
2005-06 is the first year that LWL has run a Mixed Division and, to encourage participation in the Mixed event, the rules have been amended from the UKUA Mixed regulations.

  1. Once the OFFENCE team has announced the number of women (2 or 3) required for the point, either team may voluntarily elect to field more (BUT NOT FEWER) women than that number - ie there is no requirement to field a minimum of four men in any point.

    Examples:
Offence field 4 women, defence fields 3 women = acceptable
Offence field 3 women, defence fields 3 = acceptable
Offence field 3 women, defence fields 2 = NOT ACCEPTABLE
Offence field 2 women, defence fields 2 women = acceptable
Offence field 2 women, defence fields 1 women = NOT ACCEPTABLE
Offence field 2 women, defence fields 4 = acceptable

  2. Teams are welcome to play by the full UKUA Mixed rules with the official 3/4 gender split at the agreement of BOTH team captains BEFORE the game begins. Please note that this is binding for the whole game and, in the scenario of losing players to injury a team cannot retrospectively ask to return to the LWL Mixed rules and, if they cannot comply with the 3/4 gender ratio, must forfeit the game.

  3. LWLC will look unfavourably on any teams that try to place undue pressure on their opposition to play 3/4 women when they are not happy to do so.
   D. Kit
  1. It is the responsibility of team captains to ensure ALL members of their teams brings acceptable light and dark tops to the matchdays.
  E. Entering the League
  1. Each individual matchday has an entry and payment deadline 5 working days in advance:

Note that payment should be received by LWLC by the above deadline. For details of how to pay please see the [lwl-contacts] group: http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/lwl-contacts/files/2005-06/how2pay.txt
Note that you will need to be a member of the [lwl-contacts] mailing list, and have a YahooID and password to be able to access this file.

2. Teams that pay in advance for all four events may withdraw from an individual event before its entry deadline without penalty, and will receive a refund for that particular event.

  1. Any team withdrawing AFTER the entry deadline will not receive a refund, and will only be considered entry into following 2005-06 LWL events at the discretion of the LWLC.

  1. Teams entering late will be considered at the discretion of the LWLC, but cannot be guaranteed entry.
  1. Please inform LWLC, in writing (ie by email to winterleague@londonultimate.com, as early as possible if your team has entered an event but looks unable to bring a team. We always endeavour to find a solution that suits all parties, but we can only help you out if you help us out :-)
 WE DON'T LIKE NO-SHOWS!

  1. At the discretion of LWLC, teams may be able to enter the League at any point in the season, but please be aware that priority will be given to teams that have entered all four events (especially those that pay for all four in advance!).

  1. Teams should be aware that interest in the 2005-06 League is high and, as we are restricted for space at Clapham and Wandsworth Commons, entering the League halfway through will severely lessen your likelihood of gaining entry to the later events. This also applies to teams that enter the early events and then miss a matchday - there might not be space to let you back in.

OUR ADVICE? Commit to playing all four matchdays and, if possible, pay for all four in advance.

F. Ranking Points

  1. The points system for the 2005-06 LWL has yet to be confirmed.
  G. Tournament Formats
  1. LWL is not strictly a league in that each team does not necessarily play all the others over the season. Each matchday is split into divisions of teams based on initial seedings. Exact formats will depend on how many teams enter each matchday, and are likely to change as the League progresses.

  1. LWLC endeavours to ensure that ALL teams entered into a particular matchday play the same number of games in as similar format as possible, but this is not always viable. LWLC reserve the right to change the numbers in each and any division should there be large disparities in the quality of teams within one division. Promotion and relegation from Divisions will be affected by changes in format between matchdays, and so exact numbers of teams promoted and relegated will be at the discretion of the LWLC.

  1. The top team of a division will ALWAYS be promoted to the next division up.
 H. Seedings
  1. All seedings are at the discretion of the LWLC.

  1. For matchdays 2-4 the results of the previous matchday will be used as seedings, although the LWLC retains the right to amend these as necessary. Please note that it is NOT the overall rankings table that will be used to generate the seedings for the next event.

  1. Teams that were not at the previous event (including visiting foreign teams) will be seeded by the discretion of the LWLC, although it is likely that they will be placed in the lowest division.
