Matchday 4 - Sunday 13 February Clapham wrapped up their 4th straight title in the London Winter League, taking down their second team in a hard-fought semi-final (9-7) to remain unbeaten over the winter season. Icy Dykes made their second final in their second appearance in this year's League, but again fell a bit short of upsetting the National Champions. Strong performances again by Haze, Discuits, LTD Release and Brighton saw them secure top-5 spots in the overall rankings. Hearing of this defeat (perhaps), Raymond van Barneveld avenged his country's lose in the other England vs Netherlands match that day, beating Martin Adams in the final of the BDO World Darts. In the other pool of Division1 things were a lot closer with all four teams well matched - previous finalists Haze dropped down to 6th overall before ending the day with a 11-4 victory over NO-LO. In Div2 Bristol were dominate, conceeded an average of only 5 points a game. StrangeBlue, Thundering Herd and Lucky Huckers battled it out to meet the West Country boys in the final, with the Cambridge team earning that right with some narrow victories. In Division 3 a new-look PAF team emerged victorious from closely-contested games with Discuits 2, Disc Doctors and Curve. Division 2 was won by Strange Blue with close fought victories over newcomers Bliss and LWL "veterans" the Thundering Herd. Discuits 2 were knocked off the top of Division 3 by DiscDoctors 1. With the format for Matchday 3 still undecided, we'll have to wait and see which teams are relegated and which are promoted... Clapham started their hunt for another title by winning Division One, although youth was to the fore with Haze (Loughborough University) and the SE Students team both performing well. In the second Division TFKA Hammerage (who will be using their new name of No-Lo, North London Ultimate, at matchday 2) pipped Pond Life, with UnderCoverLoverrs third. In the Third Division 6ffu defeated discuits 3 and Disc Doctors - a promising start for the junior team recruited and coached by Pete "Rodders" Wright. For full results, photographs and a video clip click here How the Points are worked out The points system for the 2004-05 LWL is based on the formula developed for the UKU Open and Mixed Tours. The scoring system is fixed for positions 1 - 16 (240 for 1st, then descending by 10 points a place down to 90 for 16th). The points scored by teams finishing 17th and below vary depending on the number of teams at the tournament, and are worked out by the following formula: Teams below 17th score finishing in m'th position (with N teams in the tournament) score 80 * (N+1-m) / (N-16) points, (rounding to the nearest integer). Therefore 17th place in a 27 team LWL receive: You can work out the rest, it does make sense (eventually!) Every Division Winner at each Matchday receive an extra 10 points, bringing their score in line with the bottom team of the Division above them. At the end of the League the total points of ALL 4 matchdays will count towards the final rankings - please note this is different from previous years when teams have been allowed to drop their worst result. Any issues with points allocation should be addressed to the LWL Committee.
