Competition format

Fifteen teams are split into three first round groups of five (Groups A, B, C). Each team plays round-robin within their group (i.e. four games per team). Then the top two in each group progress to the second round "cup" division, third and fourth-placed teams to the "plate" division, and the three fifth placed teams make up the lower division.

In the second round cup and plate divisions, teams play round-robin within their division (with the exception that they do not repeat their game against the team that they played in the first round - the result from that game is carried forward). This gives each team a further four games.

The top two teams in the cup division then compete in the final. There are no semi-finals this year. A plate final is not scheduled, but if the plate teams really want one, then we'll have one.

The three lower division teams also play round-robin to decide places 13 to 15. Although this gives them only two second-round games each, additional "pickup" games have been inserted into the schedule primarily for the benefit of these teams, so that they have other opportunities to play.
