Last night saw Herd Cocktail match up against Golden Ants for the second week running, after Golden Ants more or less put us out of the running for the league with a good win last week.
It was another really good hard fought fun game (probably better quality than the week before) but we weren't going to lie down and take it 2 weeks on the trot and played probably our best half of the season in the second half to eventually take what was a very tight game in the first half 15-9. We could see how much it meant to Ants afterwards and it's always great to play teams that love summer league - it's where we started playing after all and we were just as determined to reach the final.
Look forward to seeing the Galahs v Good Lord report here tomorrow! see one of you in the final... |

Crikey Balham All-Stars are a bit good eh?
We'd been dreading/eagerly anticipating this match up since they tonked us 15-2 in the second week of the league. We thought we could do better. We thought if luck went our way we could even win.
Well luck did go our way.
Balham didn't have any girls.
Refusing to forfeit they opted to play five on the line. They were cocky. And, truth be told they had a right to be. We knew we had to not let the fact that they were playing with 5 affect the way we were playing. We couldn't assume the win. They'd chosen to play with 5 because they knew we could. In the end though there was just too much space for us and no zone was ever going to shut it down. Playing one short cover and one long on D allowed us to keep most options closed down but even that didn't stop them tearing through it with some lightning cuts, breaks and some calm O.
From a team perspective it was a fantastic learning experience. Our long and short poachers got some good experience which will come in handy when zoning and our man markers came face to face with by far the toughest opponents in our division and were forced to play out of their skins to keep up.
At half time it was 8-7 to Hazard and frankly it could have gone either way, but we grew more and more comfortable in our O and began to take it away in the second half. Balham's switch to man caused us a few wobbles but once we'd figured out the change we managed to deal with it and the game ended up 15-10.
If they'd have had seven would we have stood a chance? It's hard to say. My heart says yes but my head says no.
A fantastic game from our perspective though, and it just goes to show All-Star's strength that we can consider a game against 5 players such a hard-won victory and one to be proud of.
